Hung Yen Province

The new Hung Yen Province, in the heart of the Hong River Delta, was formed through a merger with Thai Binh. Its territory combines inland alluvial plains along the Hong River and Luoc River with a fertile downstream delta belt rich in agricultural and aquaculture potential. The terrain is extremely flat, and the tropical monsoon climate is ideal for specialty fruit (especially Hung Yen longan) and wet–rice cultivation. The Bac Hung Hai irrigation network plays a crucial role as the main drainage and irrigation axis. Rooted in the Red River civilization, Hung Yen stands out with the Pho Hien heritage site (a major international trading hub in the 16th–17th centuries), a dense system of traditional festivals and craft villages, and vibrant riverside and coastal cultural spaces.

Did you know?
Hung Yen is considered the flattest province in Viet Nam – there are no hills or mountains anywhere in its territory.
