Bac Ninh Province

The present–day Bac Ninh Province was formed from the former administrative unit that included both Bac Ninh and Bac Giang, and now serves as the industrial and service gateway to the northeast of Ha Noi. The province stretches from the western slopes of Yen Tu Mountain to the fertile plains of the Hong River Delta, blending midland hills, flat rice fields, and a dense network of rivers and canals. Its economy stands out for electronics, high–tech industries and supporting industries anchored along modern logistics and urban corridors, alongside specialty agriculture (lychees and other fruit trees) and a rich system of traditional craft villages. Kinh Bac culture is the province’s beating heart: Quan ho folk songs, complexes of ancient pagodas and temples, and the Tay Yen Tu pilgrimage route.

Today, Bac Ninh hosts around 41 major traditional festivals each year. This is a land of refined, humanistic culture with countless historical and cultural relics, folk festivals, and long–standing craft villages. The people of Bac Ninh are known for their cultural sophistication, hard work, and creativity. Their skilful hands keep alive the folk spirit of this “land of a hundred crafts”: silk weaving, ceramics, bronze casting, silver carving, wood carving, papermaking, and folk painting… and above all, the soulful melodies of Quan ho folk songs.

Did you know? Bac Ninh is the Vietnamese province with the highest number of Trang nguyen (first–ranked laureates in the imperial examinations). Throughout the royal court exams under the feudal dynasties, the country produced 47 Trang nguyen and 2,991 Tien si (doctoral laureates), of which the Kinh Bac region alone contributed 17 Trang nguyen and 622 Tien si.
