Before the information that a 150cc motorbike would require a license change, many people felt quite confused. So what exactly does a 150cc bike require? Below is the experience RuudNguyen.com wants to share with you to clarify.
What is a 150cc Motorcycle?
When it comes to different types of motorcycles, we often refer to the bike’s engine displacement. Engine displacement is measured in cubic centimeters (cc), so when we say a 150cc motorcycle, it means a motorbike with a 150cc engine.

Typically, only motorcycles with engine displacements under 50cc, such as Honda Dream 50, Honda Little Cub, SYM Elite, SYM Angela, do not require a driver’s license. On the other hand, motorcycles with engine displacements over 50cc require the operator to have a valid driver’s license; otherwise, they may face fines or have their vehicles temporarily impounded.
Among the various types of driver’s licenses available today, the A1 license can be considered the most common and widely used. To obtain an A1 license, you will need to go through the application process and take the required examination. After successfully passing the test, you will be issued a certificate qualifying you to operate a motor vehicle on the road.
What license is required to operate a 150cc motorcycle?
According to the regulations of the Road Traffic Law and Circular 46 of the Ministry of Transport of Vietnam regarding driver training, testing, and licensing: “An A1 driver’s license will be issued to those who operate motorcycles, two-wheel mopeds, or similar vehicles with engine displacements ranging from 50 to 175cc, and three-wheel mopeds intended for people with disabilities.

With this information, it’s clear that those operating a 150cc motorcycle must possess an A1 driver’s license to meet the necessary qualifications for riding. Currently, the A1 driver’s license in Vietnam has no expiration date. Therefore, you only need to register for the examination once, and you’re good to go.
